What is cold therapy and what time period is it used for?
Cold therapy is a product that consists of a fluid circulating pad that is placed on the patient post-operatively and covers the surgical site.
The cold therapy acts as an anti-inflammatory, pain reducer and decreases swelling.
The cold therapy machine is typically used for a period of 3-10 days. Please keep in mind, depending on your insurance coverage, the time period
in which the equipment is supplied to you may vary. Please keep a clean t-shirt, paper barrier or thin towel between your skin and the cold
therapy pad at all times to avoid thermal burns.

What is a CPM machine and what time period is it used for?
A Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) is a postoperative treatment method that is utilized to assist in the recovery of a joint after surgery. Passive
range of motion means that the joint is moved without the muscles in the area being engaged. The CPM machine prevents the tissue around the joint
from becoming stiff and decreases scar tissue to form, allowing the joint to maintain its mobility. In surgeries where microfracture or osteoplasty
is done it is also used to promote new fibro-cartilage to grow.
A CPM is used when a knee ligament reconstruction is done. The CPM is typically used for a period of 1 to 6 weeks depending on the surgery performed.

What are hyaluronic acid injections?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a viscosupplementation injection. Hyaluronate is a natural chemical found in high amounts in joint tissue and the fluid that fills
the joint. HA (like hyaluronate) acts as a lubricant and a shock absorber in the joint, thereby decreasing inflammation. The shots are administered in a
series of 3 to 5 shots depending on the severity of symptoms and the brand chosen. They are given 7 to 10 days apart and the patient is instructed to rest
for 24-48 hours after the injection. HA injections can be given every six months but it is important to note that not all insurance companies will approve
them at this time increment. As with anything, there are risks that are involved but are rare. These risks include: pain at the injection site, infection,
swelling, allergic reaction and bleeding. Please let your health care provider now if you have an allergy to products from birds such as feathers, eggs,
and poultry.

What is microfracture?
This is a procedure done to promote marrow production in areas where articular defects (areas of bare bone) are present. The procedure is accomplished by
utilizing a small pick to break through the subchondral bone. This allows for the potential of stem cells to produce a new fibro-cartilage to grow.
Typically patients are non-weight bearing for a period of 1 to 8 weeks depending on the area treated.

What is a MRI Arthrogram?

better visualization of the structures and tissues within the joint.
